Prof. Reinald Brunner (Switzerland) - 3.12.2024

Faculty of Medicine, University of Medical Sciences named after K. Marcinkowski and the City of Poznan would like to invite you to an open lecture by Prof. Reinald Brunner entitled "Movement and measurement". The lecture will take place on 3 December at 12:00 in the hall named after J. Tomaszewska at the Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Clinical Hospital at ul. 28 Czerwca 1956. 135/147.

Prof. Reinald Brunner has been professor of paediatric orthopaedics since 2005 and is the former head of the department of neuro-orthopaedics at the University Children's Hospital in Basel (1992-2020), where one of the first laboratories for movement analysis in Europe is located. He continues to work as a consultant after his retirement in 2021. He is an internationally recognised specialist in orthopaedic problems in neuromuscular disorders, especially cerebral palsy. His main interests revolve around issues related to gait in normal and pathological situations, in particular muscle action, neuromuscular control and the further development of gait analysis to make it a useful tool for all clinicians.

He served for five years as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Deputy Head of the Department of Bioengineering of the Faculty of Medicine. He was awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh 2013 (F.R.C.S. ad hominem), by the Swiss Orthopaedic Society Swiss Orthopaedics 2014 (honorary member) and by the Association for Prosthetics and Orthotics 2016 (honorary member). He heads the EPOS (European Society of Paediatric Orthopaedics) research group on neuromuscular disorders. In addition, he runs programmes supporting paediatric and neuro-orthopaedic treatment in India, Armenia and Uzbekistan. He served as associate editor of the scientific journal Gait & Posture until December 2022.
