Prof. Anika Prather (USA) - 28.10.2021

The Institute of Classical Philology of the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań and the City of Poznań invite to an open lecture of Prof. Aniki Prather entitled: "African Americans and the Classical Tradition", which will be held on Thursday, October 28 at 6.00 p.m. The organised lecture will be held remotely, via the MS Teams application and will be translated into Polish consecutively.

Prof. Anika Prather is educated in the field of music and theater education and liberal arts obtained at several American universities (the University of Maryland, New York University, Howard University, St. John College). She defended her PhD thesis at the University of Maryland on the role of the canon of Western literature in the education of black American students. She was also awarded the St. John College award for her contribution to promoting classical education among the black students. In 2015, she founded her own school ("The Living Waters School"), based on the combination of the idea of the classical education (Latin, the canon of classical reading) and the Christian faith. She currently teaches at the Howard University's Department of English Literature.
