The Faculty of Neophilology at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and the City of Poznań invite for open lecture which will be delivered by prof Henning Lobin - world-famous specialist in text technology and digital humanities.
The lecture entitled: "Die Engelbart-Galaxis. Vom Lesen und Schreiben in der digitalen Welt" will take place on 4 November 2015 at 3 pm. in Collegium Novum, room C-3 (Faculty of Modern Languages and Literature, AMU). In the same place professor will also deliver a lecture the next day, at 10 am.
Dr hab. Henning Lobin is a professor of German linguistics, head the Department of Applied Linguistics and Computer Linguistics at the Institute of German Philology (Institut für Germanistik/Arbeitsbereich ASCL), at Justus Liebig University in Gießen, as well as Director of the Centre of Interactive Media (Zentrum für Medien und Interaktivität) in Gießen.
Prof dr hab. Henning Lobin (born in 1964) studied German philology, philosophy and computer science. He was awarded doctoral degree in 1991 at the University of Bonn, habilitated himself in 1996 at the University of Bielefeld, and in 1999 he took charge of the Department of Applied Linguistics and Computer Linguistics at Justus Liebig University in Gießen. He was the vice-president of this university, chairman of Association of Technology of Language and Computer Linguistics (Gesellschaft für Sprachtechnologie und Computerlinguistik) for six years, since 2007 he has been the director of Centre of Media and Interactivity (Zentrum für Medien und Interkativität) in Gießen. He also is a spokesperson of numerous consortiums, e.g. supported by the Volkswagen Foundation and Federal Ministry of Education and Scientific Research (BMBF).
Prof. Henning Lobin is the author of more than 70 scientific articles, seven monographs, e.g. Computerlinguistik Texttechnologie (2010), Die wissenschaftliche Präsentation (2012) and En-gelbarts Traum (2014). The scientist also conducts numerous research projects related to computer linguistics and text technology, as their manager or co-manager. In recent years he has worked, e.g. at the project "Zeitung und Ausbildung in Hessen - news to use" [Press and Education in Hesse - news to use]. Since 2012 until this day he has been working on project "GeoBib - Virtueller Atlas und Online-Bibliographie der frühen Holocaustliteratur" [GeoBib - virtual and online bibliography of early Holocaust literature].
The main areas of research of Prof.Henning Lobin include digital humanities, multi-modal scientific communication, modelling information with the use of XML language, technology of the text, e-learning standards, dependency grammar of German language, as well as impact of digitalisation on culture. The professor raises the latter aspect in his most recent publications entitled "Engelbarts Traum". Wie der Computer uns Lesen und Schreiben abnimmt " [Engelbart's Dream - how a computer takes away our writing and reading]". Author answers there to questions concerning development of e-culture, as well as impact of computerisation on ability to write, read or on functioning of scientific-educational institutions.
The Institute of Descriptive Grammar of German language of IFG UAM has cooperated with professor Lobin since 2004. This cooperation includes visits of academics of IFG UAM in Gießen, e.g. annual research stay of professor UAM dr hab. Janusz Taborek in the years 2004 - 2005 or doctoral internship of Michał Piosik, MSc, which took place in the period 2013 - 2014 under DAAD scholarship.
