MarianWiktorDega (1896-1995)-doctor-orthopedist, a professorat the Universityof Poznan,and laterMedical University in Poznan, a scientist, a memberof the Wielkopolska Uprising.Bornin Poznan,where he spentmost of his life.Author of more than250 works,of which 60describesthecongenitaldislocationof the hip.Hisresearch in this areabecame the basisfor the development ofinnovativemethods ofsurgical treatment.Co-founder andfirst president of thePolishSociety forthe Eradication ofDisabilities,president of the PolishSociety ofOrthopaedics and Traumatology, member of thePolishAcademy of Sciences,an expert in therehabilitation ofthe World Health Organizationand a consultant of the World Wide Fundfor Research in New York.Author ofpioneeringcomprehensive rehabilitationat every stageof treatment,recognized by theWHOasa model program.In 1960hecreatedtheworld's firstPoznańDepartmentof RehabilitationMedicine.Wiktor Degadiedin Poznan, he was buried in thecemeteryJunikowo.
