Open lecture: "Structural civil and CRITIS protection - resilience in times of uncertainty"

Prof. Norbert Gebbeken is a German civil engineer. From 1995 to 2019, he was Professor of Structural Mechanics at the Bundeswehr University Munich. He is the founder and spokesperson of the RISK Research Centre - Risk, Infrastructure, Security and Conflict, the founder and president of the International Association of Protective Structures, and president of the Bavarian Chamber of Civil Engineers. Since 2020, he has led the BauProtect research group as an emeritus professor.
His main research areas focus on the safety of built infrastructure under extraordinary impacts such as natural disasters (earthquakes, floods), technical failures (explosions, collisions), and terrorist attacks. His team works on developing new materials, secure building façades, and comprehensive concepts for safe urban spaces that incorporate smart green infrastructure.
Throughout his career, he has served as dean, member of the academic senate, and vice-president of the Bundeswehr University Munich. He is also a member of various scientific and professional organisations, advising German ministries on infrastructure protection, and serving as a curator for institutions including the Fraunhofer Institute for High-Speed Dynamics (Ernst Mach Institute) and the Architecture Museum of the Technical University of Munich.
