Born in Canada, violinist Kai Gleusteen began his studies at the age of five in his hometown of Calgary. At a young age, he had the opportunity to study with some of the most renowned violinists and teachers of his time, including Nathan Milstein, Ivan Galamian, Josef Gingold, Dorothy DeLay, and Zakhar Bron. At the age of seventeen, Kai won the top prize at the Commonwealth Concerto Competition in Australia, received the prestigious Skene Award in Scotland, and founded his first chamber orchestra: The Group of Twelve.
In addition, he studied anthropology, geophysics and philosophy at the University of Michigan and earned his master's degree at Rice University.
In 1991, Kai moved to Europe; Paris and Prague were his homes for nine years, allowing him to develop and perform both as a soloist and a leader of numerous orchestras. In 2000, he won the position of concertmaster of the Orchestra "del Gran Teatre del Liceu" before moving to Barcelona. In 2003, he founded the Gran Teatre del Liceu Chamber Orchestra and was appointed professor at the Escuela Superior de Musica de Catalunya. He continues to perform extensively as a soloist in Europe and North America. He has released numerous critically acclaimed recordings. Kai plays a violin made by J.B. Guadagnini in 1781.
