Scientific Council

The Project Scientific Council, whose main task is to support the Project Leader, i.e. the City of Poznań, in formulating the scientific concept of the Project and indicating the course of its implementation ensuring drawing conclusions in the planning of city development, was appointed under the Project.


The council comprised prominent representatives of the scientific community of Poznań.


Prof. PUE, PhD Cezary Kochalski (Vice-Rector for Strategy and Development, Poznan University of Economics) - Head of the Council

Prof. dr hab. Cezary Kochalski on a daily basis is Head of the Department of Financial and Strategic Analysis. He graduated from the then Academy of Economics in 1992. In the same year, he completed postgraduate studies at the University of Stirling, UK. In 1999, he was awarded a PhD in Economics at the Academy of Economics in Poznan and received his habilitation in 2007, becoming Habilitated Doctor in Economics. Since 2009, he has been Associate Professor at the University of Economics. In 2007-2008, he was Adviser to the President of the Polish National Bank in the Strategic Management Team. Since 2009, he has been a member of the Strategy Council of the City of Poznań. In 2010, the Ministry of Education awarded him the Medal of the National Education Commission to honour his outstanding contributions to schooling and education. He is a member of the Academy of Accounting Historians and the British Alumni Association. Besides completing numerous transnational internships, he has authored over 90 scientific publications in the field of financial analysis, controlling, management accounting and value management.


Prof. AMU, PhD Ryszard Cichocki (Deputy Dean for PhD Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, Adam Mickiewicz University)

Prof. AMU, PhD Ryszard Cichocki at the same time serves as Head of the Department of Theoretical Sociology of the Adam Mickiewicz University and Director of the Quality of Life Research Centre affiliated to the same university. He is also a member of the Statistical Council affiliated to the Prime Minister. He has been engaged in social and market research since the beginning of the market economy in Poland. He specialises in carrying out research for public institutions and research in the field of quality of life indicators. He has authored over 600 applied, utility and commercial research reports for local government institutions, state administration, companies, etc. and published about 80 popular and journalistic writings, mainly containing popularisations and interpretations of the results of sociological and public opinion research.


Prof. Rafał Drozdowski (Director of the Institute of Sociology and Head of the Department of Everyday Life Sociology, Adam Mickiewicz University)

Prof. Rafał Drozdowski is Director of the Institute of Sociology and Head of the Department of Everyday Life Sociology at the Institute of Sociology of the Adam Mickiewicz University. In 1985, he completed a degree in Political Science. In 1987, however, he received a Master's degree in Sociology. In 1996, he defended his doctoral thesis, entitled "Study of the mechanism of delegitimisation of power. Evolution of the social criteria of "good government' in 1989-1993" at the Adam Mickiewicz University. In 2003, he received his habilitation degree, and since 2011, he has been Professor. Moreover, he is Deputy Editor of the "Journal of Law, Economics and Sociology". The scope of his research interests includes: everyday life sociology, visual sociology, theoretical sociology. He is the author of four monographs and the scientific editor of four books. He has published 42 articles in books and 18 articles in journals. In total, his bibliography comprises 85 publications, including 61 after obtaining the degree of Habilitated Doctor.


Prof. Wanda M. Gaczek (Head of the Department of Spatial and Environmental Economics, Poznan University of Economics)

Prof. dr hab. Wanda M. Gaczek in 1970 graduated from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan with a degree in Regional Geography. In 1976, she obtained a PhD in Economics from the Higher School of Economics in Poznan. In 1993, however, she obtained the degree of Habilitated Doctor in Economics from the Faculty of Management of the then Academy of Economics and became Professor of Economics in 2010. So far, she has published about 100 original scientific papers in the field of spatial and economic structure of cities, agglomerations and metropolitan areas, as well as regional development in the knowledge-based economy. She is the author of numerous regional and urban expertises. Since 2011, she has been a member of the Committee for Spatial Economy and Regional Planning, the Polish Academy of Sciences - she is engaged in the activities of the Task Team for Urban and Metropolitan Areas. She is also a founder and member of the Spatial Management Association.


Prof. Tomasz Kaczmarek (Head of the Department of Settlement Systems and Territorial Organisation, Director of the Centre for Metropolitan Studies, Adam Mickiewicz University)

Prof. Tomasz Kaczmarek deals with economic geography, spatial management and territorial management. Furthermore, he is the laureate of the award of Head of the Office of the Council of Ministers and the individual award of Minister of Science and Higher Education for his scientific achievements. He was awarded the scholarship of the Bavarian Ministry of Education, the German Ministry of Research and Development. He is the author of over 100 publications regarding, inter alia, population geography, Polish and European geography, administrative reforms and management integration in metropolitan areas. He has been involved in over 20 national and foreign grants, as well as research projects of application values. Apart from coordinating the activities of the Consortium for Research on the Poznań Agglomeration under the "Functioning and development directions of the Poznan Agglomeration" project, he is also a co-author of the Poznan Agglomeration Development Strategy, entitled "Poznan Metropolis 2020", a co-organiser of the Economic Forum of the Poznan Agglomeration and the Local Government Assembly of the Poznań Agglomeration, Editor-in-Chief of the "Poznan Agglomeration Library" publishing series and a member of the editorial board of international journals, entitled "Europa Regional" and "Geospace".


Prof. Teresa Rabska (Faculty of Law and Administration, Adam Mickiewicz University)

Prof. Teresa Rabska is Professor of Law (since 1975; Full Professor since 1991) of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. Currently (since 2003), she is Editor-in-Chief of the "Journal of Law, Economics and Sociology" published by the Adam Mickiewicz University and the Poznan University of Economics. She has published over 100 scientific papers (monographs, contributions to collective works, articles, comments), edited joint publications regarding the broad range of public economic law, as well as state and local government structural issues. Among others, she has worked as Head of the Postgraduate Studies in Local Government, Vice-Dean, Vice-Rector, Expert of the Sejm and Senate of the Republic of Poland, a member of the advisory boards affiliated to the President of the Republic of Poland and the Prime Minister, a member of both the Civil Service Council and the Central Commission for Academic Degrees. She has held and participated in numerous international conferences in the country and abroad, completed internships in numerous university centres (in Yugoslavia, Germany and the United Kingdom).


Prof. Tadeusz Stryjakiewicz (Director of the Institute of Socio-Economic Geography and Spatial Management, Head of the Department of Regional Policy and European Integration, Adam Mickiewicz University)

Prof. Tadeusz Stryjakiewicz was awarded the scholarship of the Foundation for Polish Science and the Volkswagen Foundation. He completed transnational internships at the Goethe University Frankfurt and the UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies. He is engaged, inter alia, in regional and local development, urban and regional policy, organisation and dynamics of socio-economic space (including development of the creative sector), as well as contemporary urban transformations. He has participated in several national and international research projects. Currently, he is involved in the "Cities regrowing smaller" COST Action project (involving 28 countries) regarding the regeneration strategies in shrinking cities. He has authored or co-authored 240 scientific publications, numerous expertises and reports, and is a member of numerous scientific councils and associations.
