Poznan University of Technology (PUT) grew out of the State School of Mechanical Engineering which was established in 1919. The slogan of PUT "Technology in a Positive Feeling" gives an idea of the university's great concern for its students.
Currently, with its 21 000 students and more than 1 250 academic staff, it is one of the leading technical universities in Poland. It has become one of the most recognized landmarks of the Wielkopolska region, where industry perfectly combine with education and culture. The university organizes also many conferences with international guests and takes part in many local projects, such us science night, the week of brain.

Every semester, a week before the beginning of the term the Department of Modern Languages runs Polish week for the incoming foreign students. Polish Week is an introductory course which presents Polish language, culture and history. Different cultural activities and sightseeing tours in Poznan and Wielkopolska region are offered during the event.
