The Józef I. Kraszewski Museum and Studio was established through the efforts of Marian Walczak, a passionate collector, bibliophile and fan of Józef Ignacy Kraszewski. Over the span of three decades, Walczak amassed a huge collection of items associated with the writer and his works.
He presented it to the President of Poznań to be placed in the museum upon its opening in 1986. Today, the book collection of nearly 3,000 volumes contains more than 230 first editions of books by Kraszewski and nearly all later editions of his works. The museum collects scientific books on the life and work of the author of "Stara Baśń" ("An Ancient Tale"). To mark the 50th anniversary of the Kraszewski's literary work, the museum displayed the memorabilia which the writer received in 1879. They are kept at the Poznań Society for the Advancement of Arts and Sciences.
