The Region of Wielkopolska (Greater Poland) lies in the basins of the Warta, Prosna and Noteć rivers in the belt of the North European Plain. This historical part of Poland, now established as a separate administrative district, lies between Central Poland and Poland's Western border at the crossroads of major European transportation routes connecting the East with the West and the North with the South. Wielkopolska is where the Continental and Oceanic weather fronts meet. The Region abounds with lakes, forests and rivers.

Wielkopolska is the cradle of the Polish state, the historic residence of Poland's first rulers of the Piast dynasty, the site at which Poland first adopted Christianity. You may explore the fascinating origins of Poland and its eventful subsequent history in numerous archaeological and ethnographic museums, heritage parks and archaeological reservations.

Wielkopolska offers unique traditions and folklore manifested in its historic architecture and the distinctive culture of its towns and villages.
