Poznań is one of the largest cities of Poland which is known as a strong academic, business and fair centre. With approx. 545 thousand residents, Poznań is the 5th largest Polish city. The Agglomeration of Poznań counts approx. 1 000 000 inhabitants.
The capital city of the Wielkopolska Region is an important transport hub. Poznań is located halfway between Warsaw and Berlin. Both capital cities may be accessed by motorway A2, other cities by expressways S11 and S5. The international airport Poznan-Ławica is located within the borders of the city, 15 minutes away from the centre.
Poznań is a strong academic and scientific centre that belongs to the absolute leaders in Poland. The city hosts 24 universities, including 8 public universities, with 105 thousand students. This means that every fifth resident of Poznań is a student. The scientific activity of the universities is supplemented by tens of scientific and research and development entities.
Poznań is an important business centre on the map of Poland. The city is the seat of over 127 thousand business entities, while the number of companies with foreign capital is one of the largest in Poland. Foreign capital comes mainly from Germany, France, Japan, Great Britain and the USA. On the other hand, the largest volume of investment capital has been invested in industrial production, above all in the automotive, food and pharmaceutical sector, trade and real estate (including office, commercial, hotel and residential properties). The capital city of the Wielkopolska Region is one of the leading locations for foreign investments in the country.
The unemployment rate amounts to approx. 1% in Poznań and is one of the lowest rates in Poland.
The Development Strategy for the City of Poznań 2020+ envisages the implementation of five main strategic priorities:
- Strong Metropolis,
- Modern entrepreneurship,
- Green and mobile city,
- Friendly housing estates,
- Community and social dialogue.
Therefore, Poznań has identified the following priority sectors of the economy: technologically advanced production, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), Shared Services Centre (SSC), Research and Development (R&D), conferences and exhibitions and recreation and leisure.
